Due to growing demand, we have reorganized the galleries here at the site. The original gallery area is now designated the "Elite Gallery", featuring established artists who have significant portfolios and have been invited to permantntly display their work in a consistant fashion.

Our second, and newest, display area is our Member Gallery, located in the forum. This area is open to all site members (including those already displaying work in the Elite Gallery) and is the place to get comments and critique on your work. Please read the guidelines under that topic for further information. We hope these changes will give everyone more options in receiving feedback and displaying their artwork!

Hehe - I certainly won't take credit for the idea!  It's a popular thing to do with several of the major Art sites these days and, although I've resisted to this point (in order to be different?), the need is clearly there and a good idea is a good idea.  It seems to be working well for others in practice and I think it will work well here to...

Cool! Like gfxartist.com, will the members get the chance to get into the elite?

Yes, absolutely...being in the "Member Gallery" is in no way a limiting factor.  In fact, posting enough good work in there will most definitely get you into the Expert Gallery.

Also, in reverse...once someone is in the Expert gallery, they are still free to post in the member gallery when they want comments, opinions, etc (since the Expert Gallery is not part of the forum and doesn't allow for this.  It is more of a static Gallery display, like you might see in a real museum).  So, we will be seeing some crossover there...In addition, artists who are not currently involved with the site, but do extrordinary work, will still be invited directly into the Expert Gallery as has always been done.  The helps to expand the community and the collection of quality art available to visitors.

So, although the basic idea is similiar to what is happening at GFXArtist, is will function a bit differently...our own take on things if you will.

Edit: Changed "Elite" to be "Expert" for the first gallery area to avoid confusion with GFXArtist or other sites as you guys mentioned...I considered "Guru", but thought this might be better!
