"We found ourselves staring at a strange oasis...a dry, but habitable super-earth whose sun lies on the outskirts of a modest stellar nursery.  Whether or not this system formed from this same nebula is not known, but the nighttime views must be, for lack of a better word, spectacular."

Excerpt from the personal log of Eyrie Jenkins.

Rendered in Blender and GIMP.

I like how the star light is being scattered in the nebula.
I haven't yet attempted to render planetary rings and their shadow using blender myself, great work!

If you are looking for any critiques, I'll offer one.
The direction of the light being cast on the planet, and the angle of the shadow of the rings relative to the rings themselves should agree with one another.

Here's a little example I put together :)

Keep up the great work; looking forward to seeing more from you!

In truth, the rings were done in GIMP, as were the ring shadows.  Had a nightmare of a time getting it to work right, so when I had the above result, I was fairly pleased with it.

Thanks for the geometric guide.  How did you do that?

(I've never done rings in Blender yet either)
