I recently got a copy of Carrara 7 pro thanks to JanL. I've started using it and trying to learn what I can from the tutorials that came with it. I think I'm getting past those now and I've got some of the basics down.

My question is this.. does anyone know of a good place for more tuts on this program or is another program similar enough that I can use their tuts? I'm looking for help mostly with ships. I'd like to start creating ships for my pieces and I have no idea where to start. Any help would be great.

Hi JKelly

here are some that might help(I don't know for sure though)

  1. www.tutorialized.com
  2. www.terranuts.com
  3. www.renderosity.com
  4. www.markbremmer.com
  5. www.crazyleafdesign.com
  6. www.youtube.com
  7. www.3dworld.com
  8. www.daz3d.com
  9. www.deviantart.com
  10. www.softwaretutorials.com

Thats a few I think Software tutorials is a site where they sell DVDs so you might want to try there also try amazon because they most proberly will have a cheap book on the subject and even Ebay may have a good deal.

Well I must go hope this helps

Karl

Hey I found this tutorial, not for spaceships, it's about how to add a planet in the sky in a Carrara scene

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutorial/index.php?tutorial_i d=2457

There's quite a lot of tutorials there on Rendo (40+ pages) but I don't know how many deal with spacey things or 3d modeling in Carrarra?

PS Also found this one

http://www.digitalcarversguild.com/tutorial.php?TutorialId=1 1

seems to use a plugin called Anything Grows, that seems similar to the Greeble plugin, don't know where to get it though

Justin, where to start.  If you give me a sketch of a ship you would like to design.  I'll see if I can make a special tutorial on it.  Jan

OK this is not very space but here goes: I don't know if you have ever heard of Thomas Luft's Ivy Generator or not, its a fantastic little program to generate ivy climbing on something, original available here

http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/

Now it has been turned into a plugin for Carrara, available for free here:

http://www.sharecg.com/v/44242/Software-and-Tools/Ivy-Genera tor-For-Carrara

It's not technically spacey, but you might find it helpful I've used it a few times, and it's fairly easy to use the original version at least

Awesome, I'll check that out. Thanks again Brian.

@JanL - I've figured out a few things as far as working with verticies now and I'm trying to get the texturing and lighting figured out.
