Thanks to an idea presented by Brian (Regulus), Tom (Administrator) has designed a new forum, Space Craft designs, located under Artists Studio. This is where you can post finished or WIP works of your Space craft and any copyright free space craft designs, even better your designs. Jan

Hello, Jan,
good idea.
Is it possible to post just the naked design (drawing, 3-d-
rendering etc.) or must this design be part of a regular
artwork?
And is this forum limited to space ships or is it allowed to
publish things like space suits, habitats, planetary surface
rovers etc.?

Hi Reimund, Yepper naked designs (blueprints, 2d sketches etc), space suits, habitats, planetary surface rovers, spacestations, floating air stations etc are definitely part of this forum. I think when Brian proposed this idea, he meant all of that too. Jan

Hello, Jan,
thanks. I had hoped that - but I guess it's better to ask ;-)

Yeah my original idea was to create a forum where we could put all of these spacey vehicles, whether they are spacecraft or orbital habitats, or even rovers, anything that is constructed by humans (or aliens) and used for exploration, exploitation, or things of that nature. I wanted it to be somewhere where we could share our ideas and get feedback if we want, but also somewhere for those who just want to make spaceships, and don't care about putting them in a scene (so they wouldn't really fit in the WIP section)
They can be blueprints, sketches, 3d models, paintings (although if it's a whole scene it should be in the Members Gallery)

Hello! I'm new here, but I think this site will like me. I am delighted to find a new place to hang my ship designs and futuristic scenes .... I hope to soon Thanks Brian!

The new Forum is certainly a surprise to me! Is it supposed to be an alternative to SciFi-Meshes in some ways? Why should one consider posting here rather than there, for example?
I've been thinking about updating my "Across to Mars" project, which is an Addon for Celestia. Would the new forum be an appropriate place to discuss it? It's based on the spacecraft designs of Chesley Bonestell and Wernher von Braun. (The Celestia forum's discussions tend toward more technical issues rather than artistic.) The current obsolete version of "Across to Mars" is described at http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/b-vb/index.html

No, SFM is a broad-spectrum site for SF-themed models. This new forum will be for spacecraft only -- no Batmobiles, guns, etc. -- And in keeping with our earlier policy, we want the things posted to be original designs for the most part. Earlier we had people posting a lot of Star Trek/Star Wars images and I feel these are more appropriate for other sites like SFM. Let's go for originality! And not necessarily spacecraft meshes, but sketches, drawings, blueprints and artwork. By all means, feel free to post both there and here. SFM has been a partner of ours for years and we simply overlap a little in this area.

Angel, welcome to our site and we are looking foreward to seeing your spacecraft etc, what software you did it in, and how you did it!
