Uhm...I'm starting this today, just to check out what I can do in a few
hours (quickly). I think the hardest part is imagining the flat
explosion from above as you've requested. 3D is easier 
I'll submit something in then next few days though.

Yes, I wish to see more for input images on this topic since this
particular endeavor includes the area of expression for explosion, light,
3D effect, fairly close in workup of the planet Earth's surface details and
over all impact to the viewer of something apocalyptic.
An Easy-Hard assignment for using our skills.

Haha I love how were making of pictures of earth getting destroyed by an asteroid. Some freaky stuff if you ask me lol. Seems cool though.- Andrew
