Hi all Solarentusiastics

My name is Nuno and i'm from *Portugal, i really love space art, and starting try making some space art, but my programs are all open source, since tutorials try explain almost for proprietary programs (like photoshop, 3D max, Maya, etc)

I have some knowledge in Autocad, and 3D Max (but i prefer opensource programs)
and i try to move my knowledge to this programs (Gimp and blender)

Anyone use opensource to make space art ?

btw keep all the good work

I've never used open source before. I'm interested to see some art from you! Best of luck and welcome to SV.

Hi Nuno,

welcome to SV!

I also use Open Source programms only (Gimp, Blender). Mostly I work with Gimp. I use Blender mainly for mechanical things (ships) and Asteroids.

Regarding Gimp there are some tutorials available on the web but you can also easily use Photoshop tutorials. Many techniques are similar and the naming is similar to Gimp.

I made this stuff with Gimp: http://picasaweb.google.de/kochst1/SpaceArt?feat=directlink some more you can find in this forum.

So I think what you need is to know very well how your programm works. Then you can basically use turorials for any software to understand the workflow for a specific result.

Have fun.
