The first solid detections of exoplanets around normal stars by imaging:

Firstly around the star Fomalhaut (it's always nice to have a star which has a name in these kind of announcements: HD ####### becomes somewhat wearisome after a while), there is a planet orbiting about 115 AU from the star, inside the inner edge of the system's dust disc. It also seems to have a circumplanetary disc (perhaps related to moon-formation), which could make for pretty spectacular views from the planet. Fomalhaut b is the first exoplanet to be seen in visible light.

Secondly, a set of 3 massive planets has been imaged around the star HR 8799, the outermost of which is also associated with the inner edge of a dust disc. This is the first multi-planet extrasolar system to be imaged. (Another HR 8799 press release from a different observatory is here)
