Hi everybody here!

I was absent for a long time, a lot of work and many changes in my life coused the situation.

During this time I was trying my abilities in programs to 3D modeling to generate some space art compositions.

Many new posts shows kind of sci-fi art, but many of them was very interesting and put some fresh ideas to art of SV. Some people shows not only visions of space, nebulas, unenchanted solar systems - they put some life to it showing visions with space stations and spacecrafts.

But some of works took hard pressure to sci-fi, to many spaceships and lack of space.

I was looking carefully how SV evolves during this period. Today I read all comments to this post and I have noticed that to reconcile all people here - in my opinion some things should be changed to make people more and more creative in many categories of space art visions, like space exploration (in near or distant future), flora and fauna.

I think that WIP is very good idea.

My proposal is to create some WIP categories, like:

1. visions of outer space (which is SV main theme)

2. visions of exploration crafts and surface bases - their construction should be based on real engineering (and placing them in space or planet surface enviroment, like BAMBAM131 always do)

3. visions of alien life forms and enviroments

...and place the art concepts in separate member galeries.

My next suggestion is: to make some contest - to put ideas, problems and cuestions on forum and watch the progress of work.

Just two weeks ago one of my friend told me about forum for 3D artists (not only) www.cgtalk.com - construction of this site would be helpful to see what I mean.

P.S. I hope that I did not hurt anobody's feelings about present concept of Solar Voyager forum. All above is only a suggestion.

The fear is that aerodynamically/real engineering-ly impossible ships (ships that look like they belong more in a fantasy scifi show) than what's closer to real engineering might end up there - would there be a distinction, would it be restricted to real engineering, or would a sub-forum called "sci fi ships" be there as well to cater for those?

Some kind of fine line might need to be drawn here
you mentioned a realistic shuttle was boring but IMHO its not the subject thats boring its what the artist does with it. anthing can be presented boringly its the artist that makes it work. for instance I think B.E. Johnson has done the space shuttle many times but never is it boring http://imperialearth.com/painted.html
Perhaps I do not have the vision like that so I can put a shuttle in my scene... everything I make would look like a cliche (Again the parallel from my latest work "To Boldly Go...") If I've put a NASA shuttle or something like that in the scene it would be a cliche. My friend and me like the sci-fi part of space artwork just because of its possibilities and interpreting imagination, therefore I will not post my work here anymore.

Bye.

wow, that is an open mind... very imaginative and intune to the fiction part of sci-fi. I have no argues with your feelings, but you cluld try be more understanding and subtle since we are actually redefining this site and examining it's very cores. Who ever said that sci-fi do not have a place here. The latest posts actully tries to adress this problem by suggestions of subforums.

Sorry if I offended anybody, just felt like express myself, any moderator can delete this post if you think it is bad or do not fcilitate our discussion here.

Stefan, I don't see anything wrong with your post as any of the others here.

I'm sorry that Sharky feels the way he does.  IMHO,one of the reasons why Tom keeps this topic open and at the top is because he wants to know how everyone feels and to get some decision making ideas.  Jan

Running away and stop posting here is not the solution.

Geeze, I pop in now and then and look around to see how all of you are doing, and I walk into a beehive like this.
First,
I am a moderator for fractalfun.com and we have a "No Poser" stipulation. That means no Images made by Poser software. Sounds silly, maybe. But we have our reasons. If SV has a reason in their by-laws that states what sort of images they will allow on their site you must respect that. If you don't, find another, or create another, web site that will accept your images.
Second,
I don't understand SV management for rejecting peoples art because it dosen't represent something that is never really seen by human eyes, only the eyes of our machines or our imagination. This to me is baffling. If you are counting on NASA pics as a true representation of what space looks like, I think you might be disappointed. Please View,

http://www.donaldedavis.com/PARTS/colors.html

I didn't just come by tonight to spout off about policy, just to say Hi and upload a image and tell you all how I'm doing. But after reading all this about what is allowed and not allowed, I'll just let you guys figure this one out for yourselves and I'll come back after the dust has settled. The last time I posted here I was chastised for being away for soo long. Who knows, maybe this is the last hello? :(

I thought this thread was an opportunity to throw a few ideas/opinions around rather than to actually change policy on the basis of each post. I don't think deciding on leaving SV on the basis of some of the ideas put forward here is a good idea - this is after all a discussion rather than handing down Rules On Tablets Of Stone...

As far as I have been interpreting things, there has not been an outright ban on sci-fi, no matter what the views that have been expressed in this thread have been

Don't get me wrong, I'm not tring to be a jerk or anything. But by scanning the comments, it just sounds like Admin and the members have some issues to work out. I'm not a regular poster here, I pop in and out from time to time. So i'm not up on current events. I was happy to find out that SV didn't go down the tubes. There are a lot of great people here. I'm just saying I'll pop back in when all is figured out. I like the Sci-Fi aspect of space art myself and I don't want to post anything that's not wanted on the site.

Yep, that is exactly what this thread is all about,  As you probably know, I have been committing favorable on work that is not exactly NASA standards (what ever that is). Some of the art work as gotten my juices flowing. As for plopping a space ship or three here, yep did it and had fun doing it.   By the way what is SCI-FI now just might not be 150 years from now.  We just might find a way to sustain speeds faster than light using engines that don't compress and expand stuff (it already has been done (momentarily) in laboratories with subatomic particles).
