Gee - that last one ('Toward Home') worked so well I decided to post another while I can still remember how I did it!

'Destiny Outpost' is my very latest (just finished it two days ago) and is another piece that sells as a 15" x 30" giclee print on canvas!

I just finished a copy-table type book titled "The Invisible Art" which recounts the history of matte artists from the very early Hollywood right up through the latest digiatl stuff - art that is used for backgrounds in scenes that would be more difficult (or much costlier) to film with a real-life background or even one that was built as a facade-front only type of movie set.

Anyway - I thought this piece turned out almost looking like it was ready-made for a sci-fi big-screen background matte painting.

Here is the large-scale big version so you can see the detail, etc.

Full Wallpaper View : 1024x768

Again - file-size on the original piece runs about 240-MB and resolution is at 360-ppi.  Mostly done with PhotoPaint 9 and  Lunarcell (for the background planet) with the star-field being done manually in Corel.

This piece and many others can be seen on www.skyhighgallery.com

Best Regards - Frank H.

Hi Fhettick,

Very beautiful image. Your rocket reminds me those of the pioneer C. Bonestell. Same commentary for Toward home.

Thanks - Guys -

Appreciate the very kind comments!  And like many of us "older guys" - I have been trying to emulate the Bonestell style for years - so thanks again!

When I checked the messages about your reply posts - I spotted that I somehow did not get the smaller preview-pic uploaded properly and it doesn't show among my rantings above!  Sorry about that - I will try again to post it here!

Hey - David, I didn't know you were on the IAAA member list!  l will have to check you out after I hit "send" on this message - any chance you are going to be at the Death Valley WS?

Best - Frank H.

Hi Frank!

I fixed the first preview for you =) Would you like to tell us how you made your paintings, where they made solely with traditional media, or did you use software too?

All the best,
Fahad S.

Hi - All -

Thanks for the continuing comments!  Sorry I haven't been posting more pieces over the past few months - but I had a huge one-man show in Novemeber (over 40 canvas pieces) and that kept me really hopping for several months.  Show went well enough that the gallery wants me back for two return engagements in 2005!

Fahad - I have a posted tutorial on Solar Voyager that reveals a lot of detail how I work a piece up!  Here is the link although you can also jump to it via the "Tutorials" on the upper left of this page:

Here is the outside link anyway : http://www.solarvoyager.com/tutorials.asp

My tutorial is the first one on the page and consists on 4 or 5 parts!

Happy reading - Frank H.

Ohhh, I see, your approach to space art is quite interesting, I havent thought of doing photo manipulation in this genre, maybe I'll give it a try sometime.

Sweet image!  I too thought of Chesley Bonestell when I saw this.
