When SV closes on the 9th of october, not only will we loose the web site, but also a strong administrator who has a great knowledge about art and someone who is willing to spend much time to help other people.

I'm glad that we are getting an offer about the hosting, but I also hope that there will be another "Hawkeye" around (not that I believe that the real Hawkeye can be replaced, but you get my point), that is what I will miss mostly when sv closes.

Terrible news.  I'm really sorry to see this site go, it was such a help to me and I'm sure many others.  Well, the best of luck to you and this site.

Omg noooo how could this be.....

I was a noob I couldnt make a simple planet but with this site I learned so much I am new here and now that I began too enjoy this site this happens it is like a bad dream that is beign sucked up a dark hole......

Thanks Jordan - I have sent you an email.  I have had some useful input from others as well, offering to help in other ways, so I am trying to see if these things could come together. 

To everyone else:
Beyond hosting space, the most difficult part, as someone mentioned in a post above, is the responsibility for the domain name and administration tasks.  I'm not sure that anyone is prepared to step forward and assume these tasks, which may be the sticking point.  If someone we know, and feel comfortable with, is willing to put their name on this and actually assume ownership of the name, then perhaps a team of administrators could be put together to handle the other tasks.  Beyond that, a site like this is probably best administered by a team, some of which are artistic, while others are technical and can handle programming tasks (including website maintenance and revamping as time passes - heck, maybe even a complete redesign some day).  Most big sites are run by teams of people and not one individual.

Will I be around?  I'm not going to disappear from the web be any means, but my activity, even as a web surfer, will be less.  My activity as a site owner though will be coming to an end as you already know.

Just some random thoughts tumbling around in my head. 

I am hoping myself to maintain this site... but like I said... I will need help of some of the old timers.

I'm willing to pitch in too. I know its not much I have to offer, but I'm not completely ASP illiterate. I can code a bit and I am very interested in web design and art. Perhpas I could help with the layouts and all or anything.

Now I understand how it is that when and only when a community is threatened, that that community stands up as a whole to save what it believes in.
