Well, since the last news piece featured a Windows-only application, I thought it only fair to share some news about a useful Astronomy application for our Mac users. This one is called the APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) Grabber, by RAILhead Design. Here's their description of the software:
"APOD Grabber is a little application that gives you the ability to quickly and easily view, browse, and download images from NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day web site. APOD Grabber also shows you all the proper credits, explanations/descriptions, and provides a link to the viewed image’s specific web page. You can also set the current image as your desktop picture with the click of a button!"
Sounds good to us, and best of all, it's free! Screenshots are included at their site. Mac OS X 10.1 (or higher) required. Here are the links:

I wouldn't say that Stargazer!! In the days of Mac OS9, I might have agreed, but not anymore. I've used both WinXP and and Mac OS X. So far I think OS X is the more elegant of the two by far. It also has Unix as the foundation now, so it is very stable - plus it looks very nice! Since Apple upgraded to this OS, there have been a lot of developers writing cool little apps like this for the Mac.
Jesse - unfortunately, I don't think we will see a Windows version - RAILhead developes only for the Mac...So, when you get your new G5, you'll have to remember this program!

Maybe, but it's nice to have a choice. Competition (or at least alternatives) in any product is a good thing...

it is good to have competition and choice between products. how boring would it be if all operating systems were owned and manufactured by Mr. Gates? pretty boring I say
